As of May 5, the remaining 2 active cases in Belize have fully recovered, officially making no active COVID-19 cases. Subsequently, Belize has not reported a new COVID-19 case since April 13, making it a 40-day streak of no new cases. Belize has joined an elite group of “COVID-19” countries in the world. Ѕurіnаmе, whісh hаѕ mаnаgеd tо kеер іtѕ tоtаl numbеr оf саѕеѕ rеlаtіvеlу lоw (11 соnfіrmеd саѕеѕ wіth 9 rесоvеrіеѕ аnd оnе dеаth), reported a new case after 44 days. This Suriname update leaves Belize as the only country on the American mainland without a new case. Belize’s success has come due to its prompt action in sealing the country’s borders and imposing strict quarantine measures. As a result, Belize is slowly reopening domestic travel while tentatively planning for international arrivals. Belize registered 2 deaths from COVID-19 and 18 total cases, with April 13 being the last reported spike (+4 cases).

International Travel Update

The Caribbean country of Belize tentatively plans to reopen to international visitors on July 1, as the country lays out its exit strategy from lockdown. This date, July 1, is the tentative date for the reopening of the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA). The date is extremely contingent on no further coronavirus cases in Belize, with precautionary measures. Also, it is very contingent on what’s happening in the U.S.A. The opening of the PGIA will be one of the first routes to open for international travel, before the countries borders.
