Belize Land Borders expected to reopen February 2022

While details of reopening are to be discussed further, the Government of Belize,  has announced the reopening of the land borders has been postponed to February 2022. Original set to open in January, taking on the formal recommendations of the COVID-19 Advisory Committee in Belize, the delay in opening will allow for Belize’s health system to better prepared for the emergence of the Omicron variant.  Currently, Belize’s land borders remain open to foreign tourists for vacation and recreational purposes for more than one day.

Belize’s Land Borders Are Currently Open to Tourists Only

To enter, the following entry requirements are needed:

  • Foreign Tourists may need to show proof of booking at a Belize Tourism Board Gold Standard Certified Hotel or Accommodation.
  • Foreign Tourists are permitted to enter with their own private vehicles and utilize their personal transportation for travel within Belize.
  • Foreign Tourists are permitted to enter with their own private vehicles and utilize their personal transportation for travel within Belize.
  • It is recommended that Foreign Tourists utilize certified Gold Standard transport operators.

All travelers, both vaccinated and unvaccinated entering Belize through the Northern and Western Borders will be administered a Rapid Test for COVID-19 by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, at their own expense. No external COVID-19 PCR or Rapid Test will be accepted at these points of entry.

Nationals of the following countries don’t need a visa to visit Belize: United States of America, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Barbados, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, South Korea, Mexico, Israel, the United Kingdom, Germany, Guatemala, Spain, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Uruguay, Malaysia,  Jamaica, Honduras, Panama Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Venezuela, The Republic of China (Taiwan), Trinidad & Tobago, Norway, and Sweden.
