All The Ways To Fly to Belize This Winter

The prospect of three effective vaccines has provided a glimmer of hope for travel next year. Airlines are adding new flights and in some cases, COVID-19 testing programs for travel to the Caribbean which is a region central to carriers’ strategies to tap into pockets of holiday demand before a vaccine makes its way around the world. With travel slowly and cautiously reopening in the wake of COVID-19, flying into Belize via the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport is a developing situation during the 3rd Phase of Belize’s Travel Reopening Plan. Winter travel seems to be marking a slight uptick in arrivals for those comfortable enough to fly, with getting to Belize proving easier and easier. For those ready to trade snow for the Caribbean sun, here are all the ways to fly to Belize this winter.

American Airlines

American Airlines is expanding its current preflight testing program to additional destinations, announcing preflight testing will be available for all American flights to Belize in November. Further opening the world for customers who want to travel, especially to the Caribbean. The airline will now offer preflight testing options to more destinations than any other U.S. carrier; Grenada, St. Lucia, and the Hawaiian Islands will also benefit from preflight testing this month. While American Airlines currently arrives in Belize from Miami, direct flights from Charlotte, NC, and Dallas-Ft. Worth plans to join AA’s roster for winter getaways, with Saturday service scheduled to commence on December 5. Flights from their Dallas hub (DFW) resume on December 16. Additionally, travelers can enjoy non-stop direct flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Belize as of January 9, 2021, with a Saturday-only service.

Flying time from Miami is two hours, three hours from Dallas, three and a half from Charlotte, and five hours from Los Angeles; tickets are now available for purchase from AA.com.

United Airlines

This winter, travelers to Belize can take advantage of three additional routes by United; non-stop flights to Belize from New York/Newark (EWR), Denver (DEN), and Chicago (ORD) all resume on December 19. While United currently arrives from Houston (IAH), the airline will offer COVID-19 pre-flight testing for Houston-Belize passengers starting this month. And as of January 9, United Airlines will be inaugurating its non-stop direct flight from Los Angeles (LAX) for Saturday-only weekly service.

Flying time from Denver is four hours, four hours from Newark, four hours from Chicago, two and a half from Houston, and five hours from Los Angeles; tickets are now available for purchase from United.com.

Delta Air Lines

Delta resumed non-stop Atlanta-Belize flights on November 20, with an increase in flight frequency this December, according to their website. In return, flights from Atlanta (ATL) to Belize (BZE) operate Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday before increasing to daily in December 2020/January 2021. This winter, travelers can take advantage of one more major flight airline’s return to Belize, with rates as low as US$405 roundtrip on this 3-hour flight.

Sun Country Airlines

Sun Country Airlines returns on December 19 with its seasonal non-stop service to Belize, originating from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Inaugurated in December 2018, the fairly new service is offered from December to April, and will operate once a week with a roundtrip route on Saturdays. MSP has initiated several safety measures, including a requirement that passengers wear face masks. This winter, Minnesotans can escape harsh winter weather with the return service of Sun Country’s Minneapolis-Belize 3-hour route.

While AeroMexico was one of the 12 international carriers offering direct flights from Mexico City (MEX) to Belize (BZE)—which began in November 2018—service remains suspended. However, travelers from the UK, France, the Netherlands and many other parts of Europe wishing to access Belize can do so at reopening. Starting this winter, fly direct routes through Latin America to Belize offers alternative flight routes to consider other than through the USA.
