Book a stay at the Radisson Fort George, and you’ll have plenty of adventurous trips on your doorstep from Belize City. Explore the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere; the boat departs from the marina right across the street. Inside, rooms range from simple doubles to king-sized deluxe suites, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Come nightfall, listen to live music alongside locals in the hotel’s bar, The Baymen’s Tavern. Without a doubt, the Radisson Fort George holds the mantle of one of the best hotels based in the bustle of Belize City. And while a walking tour downtown (a leisurely 15-minutes away) can be the perfect way to experience Belize City, the best way to see a city is through its food. That’s why we’re compiling a food list of where to eat in Belize City that’s less than a 15-minute walk away with the Radisson Fort George as your base.

Settle in at The Radisson, Then Eat Your Way Through The City

Dine outdoors at Radisson’s Stone Grill Restaurant patio.

Make yourself at home in one of the 102 air-conditioned rooms featuring iPod docking stations and LCD televisions at the Radisson Fort George. Stocked with everything you’d need—like cable TV, deep soaking bathtubs, in-room phones, etc.—there’s more than enough in-room and on-property to keep you settled. After all, there are 2 outdoor swimming pools and a 24-hour fitness center, babysitting services, and a concierge. But, the Radisson Ft. George is also in the heart of Belize City, within a 5-minute walk along its promenade to the BELIZE sign and Baron Bliss Lighthouse, two of the City’s most popular landmarks. Here are 10 picks of restaurants within 15 minutes (or less) of the Radisson Fort George Hotel & Marina.

1. St. George’s Restaurant

Walking distance from Radisson: 0 minutes

Radisson guests, you’re in luck. The onsite eatery St. George’s Restaurant is tropical-themed and serves lunch specials Monday through Wednesday, with a rotating buffet menu on Thursday and Friday. They’ve got specials reserved only for the weekend, too; we say never miss the Belizean Turkey Dinner and Cashew Crusted Snapper.

2. Creme de la Creme

Walking distance from Radisson: 3 minutes

Two food huts—one for great ice cream shakes and smoothies and one for burgers, nachos, and other treats—make up the (second) Creme de La Creme location. It’s right in front of the BELIZE Sign on the Marine Parade, which means you get to enjoy the typical corn-based Belizean fast food (like garnaches and the sort) with a view.

3. Cork Street

Walking distance from Radisson: 1 minute

On the same street as the Radisson, Cork Street Whiskey Bar’s refurbished interiors are sophisticated, cozy alcoves boasting all the warmth of Mahogany paneling. Get your Instagram filters ready—these are the most photogenic cocktails and small bites in Belize City, with a dress code to match. Bonus points for a weekend brunch menu!

4. 501 Hub

Walking distance from Radisson: 1 minute

A feast on the eyes as well, this restaurant is unique, charming, and wonderfully fresh. 501 Hub serves up seasonal cocktails alongside Belizean-flair dishes (think sweet potato hummus and fried breadfruit as their twist on the classic hummus + pita). If you go, be sure to ask for the cassava fries as your side.

5. Martha’s Cafe

Walking distance from Radisson: 3 minutes

The vegan-friendly garden-to-table menu at Martha’s Cafe is a mainstay in Belize City full of Caribbean favorites, such as coconut curry lentils and ceviche from the heart of palm. Plus, classics like the no-tuna chickpea melt and an Instagram-enamored avocado toast. After all, it’s the onsite eatery of a yoga-centric city stay.

6. Taka Kitchen

Walking distance from Radisson: 6 minutes

In full view of the Caribbean Sea on its outdoor patio, Taka Kitchen has the best Japanese bites in Belize City and is just a 6-minute walk away from the Radisson! Family-owned, there are traditional favorites on the menu like Nigiri sushi and Tan Tan Udon.

7. Senor Coconut’s

Walking distance from Radisson: 13 minutes

Senor Coconut’s is straight-up Belizean food done right. They do a daily special, but the fried fish with traditional rice & beans or white rice and stewed beans is never a bad choice. Even so, don’t forget the fried plantain!

8. Vino Tinto

Walking distance from Radisson: 13 minutes

On a rooftop terrace, this restaurant probably has the best view in the city. The food can be classed as international, but pricier, so it’s a great option even if just for a cocktail like the Passion Margarita. The General’s Chicken is a crowd favorite, too.

9. Dit’s Restaurant

Walking distance from Radisson: 15 minutes

This restaurant is now in its 3rd generation, with a firm fan following of locals as a favorite for anyone who visits Belize City. Cheap food, good food, and great service, Dit’s is an informal restaurant but very worth the organic feeling of homestyle cooking! If you’re anything like my mother, you’ll relish their Belizean Jam Roll—pastry crust is folded over a jam filling then baked until its egg wash + coarse sugar topping is golden.

10. Lerisi Garifunaduau Restaurant

Walking distance from Radisson: 10 minutes

If you’re up to try traditional Garifuna food whilst in Belize, this is the place to do it in the city. And often, they’ll even have live music with Garifuna drummers and dancers! There are non-Garifuna foods on the menu, but you didn’t come all the way here just for chicken fingers and fries. Instead, venture into rich, deep Carib roots by ordering hudut; it’s a coconut-based stew with fragrant herbs, mashed plantains (in the form of fufu), and topped with a whole fries fish, usually a snapper. And at just a 10-minute walk from the Radisson Hotel, you can get a taste of the Garinagu culture through food without even leaving Belize City.
