The Lionfish Bar & Grill at Ray Caye

Wondering where to grab lunch in the middle of the Caribbean Sea? Finding a full-service restaurant and bar in the middle of the ocean is somewhat rare, few and far between at best.

In the southern part of Belize, though, there’s a private island resort located 18 miles East of Placencia named Ray Caye with the motto “all boats welcome”.

Ray Caye Island Resort is home to the famous Lionfish Grill which is open to the public for lunch and dinner, daily. It’s an unexpected gem in the middle of nowhere. Plus, it’s conveniently located only 5-7 minutes away from the Gladden Spit & Silk Caye Marine Reserve.

A popular stop for the yachting community, it’s also a perfect stop-off for lunch during an all-day tour or day trip. Stop by for some of the bar’s cocktails (you will not be disappointed!) Be sure to ask for the frozen coconut mojito, and if that’s not your style, the menu has a list of over 25 hand-crafted cocktails for your choosing.

Lunch is served from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm daily. The Lionfish Grill boasts an eclectic international menu with a focus on the fresh seafood delivered daily to the island. There are a few items that are a must-try if you stop by:

  • The famous lionfish tacos
  • The Ray Caye ceviche with crispy corn tortilla chips
  • The Jalapeño infused burger (if you have a large appetite).

For dinner, available 6:30 – 9:30 pm, the Lionfish Grill offers a different spread every night that always includes a choice of 2 appetizers, 3 main course options, and delectable desserts. There’s something fresh and new every day. What’s more, the restaurant makes sure to cater to all dietary needs! For dinner, reservations are required and must be made by 4 pm.

The Lionfish Bar and Grill can cater sunset dinners, special events, and even weddings. The entire island can host up to 50 guests.
